What is the purpose of an L&D policy?

• To help you continually learn and grow in your career and/or personally.

Below are a few guidelines to keep in mind when it comes to your L&D allowance:

• We expect you to own and really drive forward your learning during your time with us, so be proactive and take time to think about what learning activities would benefit you in your role.
• Before you spend anything, please discuss it with your line manager. They can work with you to identify learning opportunities.
• We will give you up to [x days] of study leave each year to attend a course. If you need more than that, please speak to [X person].
• If you have seen a course that you think would be helpful to you in your role, but the cost is more than your budget, please speak to [X person] and we’ll see what we can do.

What can I use my L&D allowance for?

There are so many options for L&D — find what works best for you! Here are some ideas:

• In-person course — a great way to learn from experts and ask questions in real time.
• Online course — This may give you more flexibility than an in-person course (check out FutureLearn and Udemy for inspiration).
• Buy a book.
• Subscription to Audible.
• Enrol in a mentorship programme.

Whatever you choose, just remember it should be something that helps you grow in your role and is relevant to your career path!
